You are required to bring a charged iPad and earbuds to class each day. Laptops can be used as an additional device. You are also required to keep a lab notebook (composition style) that will be used only during classtime. Lab notebooks are not allowed out of the classroom. You may use any notes hand written in your lab notebook on ANY assignment or assessment.
You are expected to leave the room the way you found it each day. This includes putting chairs, stools, and pillows back in their proper places, and disposing of any trash or recycling on your way out.
No food is allowed during class unless permission is given by Ms. B. If permission is given, all traces of food and packaging must be disposed of in the trash or the recycling bin.
Water must be in a reusable container to be consumed in class. Disposable, plastic water bottles are not allowed. If you are in possession of any disposable plastic bottles, keep them in your bags, out of sight.
Classroom rules and clean up must be followed at all times. Failure to do so will result in a point deduction from your Professional Ethics grade.
If you are tardy to class more than three times, a detention will be issued. Further tardies will result in a referral to your AP. If you are later than ten minutes to class, you will not be marked tardy, you will be marked absent.
If you wish to leave class for any reason, write your name and time you left on the whiteboard on the door. Only one student may be out of the room at a time. If you are gone for more than ten minutes you will be marked absent from class. No exceptions.
Late Work
Ten (10) points will be deducted from your Professional Ethics grade for any assessment not turned in on time or according to the directions, as determined by Ms. B.
If you have trouble completing an assignment due to a lack of understanding of the concepts (or any other reason), a request for tutoring with Ms. B (via email), or extended time (via email) must be submitted before the due date for the given assignment. Once a tutoring time or a new deadline has been agreed upon, you may avoid earning a zero for the assignment by attending the tutoring session(s), or completing the assignment by midnight of the new due date.
If a zero is recorded in the grade book for any assignment, you will have one (1) school day to complete the late grade contract which includes a plan for completing the missing work. An additional five (5) school days will be given to complete and submit the work for up to full credit. If work is not completed and submitted by the end of the five days, the zero in the grade book will stand and cannot be made up at a later time. No exceptions.
Blended lab assignments not submitted by the end of class time will result in a zero on the assignment that cannot be made up, and an email will be sent to parents/coaches. No exceptions. PE points will NOT be deducted if a zero is assigned. An alternate assignment may be assigned in its place.
Absences
You have the same number of days missed to complete assessments for full credit.
Major assessments, such as projects and tests that have had prior notice, shall be completed or turned in the day the student returns to school.
For school related absences, please check the class calendar and Schoology prior to the absence for plans and instructions.
Procedures for Absences
Before returning to class, check the course calendar to see what was missed. If a lab, quiz, or test was missed, you must schedule a make-up time with Ms. B the day of your return to school.
If lecture notes were missed, check Schoology for a copy of the notes. If clarification is needed, schedule tutoring time with Ms. B.
Reassessment
If you do not pass a major assessment (50 points or higher), you may reassess over the same material for a grade no greater than a 80%.
Only three (3) reassessments may be requested per semester.
To earn the opportunity to reassess, you must complete the following within ONE WEEK (five school days) of receiving your grade, either on Portal or on Schoology:
Come to two 30-minute tutoring sessions (by appointment only)
Complete any missing work from the current grading period
Complete an additional assignment to re-assess understanding, if needed (per Ms. B)
Cheating
Any attempt to cheat will result in a zero on the assessment in question. An attempt to cheat will be determined by Ms. B and will not be discussed until a conference call with parents and principal/counselor can be arranged.
One learner aiding another with answers will result in BOTH individuals receiving zeros on the assessment. In addition, when collaborating on research or presentations, you are expected to write in your own words, use your own thoughts, and cite your sources in MLA format.
Plagiarism or sharing wording on any assessment will result in a zero. No exceptions.
If you earn a zero on any assessment because of cheating, you may have the opportunity to do an alternate assessment after a conference with parents, AP, and counselor is held.
